The Community-Based Education/Community-Based Vocational Instruction program originated in the Walker County School System in the late 1980's. The goal of the program was to help prepare the intellectually disabled population for post-secondary employment. Today, that goal is still in place. Students in this program are better prepared to make the transition from school to community to work.
Students are selected for the CBE/CBVI program based on needs determined by a committee through the IEP process.
