Healthcare Science Technology Policies

  1. Food and Drinks:  No food is allowed in the classroom, and no gum is allowed.  Students may drink water if it is in a water bottle.  No other drinks or containers will be allowed.
  2. Bathroom Passes:  Students are given 2 bathroom breaks per 9 weeks for emergencies.  If you want to go to the bathroom, bring up your stamp sheet to be stamped for one of your free bathroom breaks.  If you lose your stamp sheet, you lose your free bathroom breaks.  No student will be denied the privilege to go to the bathroom.  However, if he/she has used his/her free bathroom break (s), then he/she will have to stay after school for 10 minutes after school within the next 3 days.
  3. Leaving Class:  Students will not be allowed to leave class for any reason other than to go to the bathroom or to go to the office if called out of class.
  4. Makeup Work:  Students will be provided with a blank calendar each month to record daily activities.  If a student is absent, it is his/her responsibility to get the makeup work from another student or from me.  The student should use the last five minutes of class to get makeup assignments.  Makeup sessions will be held after school from 3:15 pm to 4:00 pm with the exception of Wednesdays.  All makeup work must be completed in 5 days, no exceptions.  The student should notify me when he/she intends to complete makeup work so that I can have it ready for him/her after school.  Unexcused absences will not be able to make up work with the exception of the first unexcused absence (see student handbook for further details).  Occasionally, I will have commitments after school, which will prevent me from being available for makeup work (i.e. committee meetings or duty).  If this is the case, I will notify the student so that he/she can complete makeup work at a different time or day.
  5. Tests/Quizzes:  If you are present the day before a test, you will be required to take that test the following day.  Most of the time, I allow students to grade their own tests/quizzes immediately after completion.  I feel that this is helpful in allowing the student to get immediate feedback.  However, I do check the tests/quizzes after taking them up.  If I find that a student is habitually dishonest on his/her grading procedure, I will take away the privilege of grading one’s own work and I will refer the student to the office for dishonesty.
  6. Phone:  Students are not permitted to use the phone in my classroom for any reason.
  7. Lab:  You are not to enter the lab without teacher permission.  Even if you are allowed to go into the lab, you must ask for permission to use lab equipment.  I have a large lab with many pieces of equipment for various different levels of training.  That is why it is imperative that you ask for permission so that I can determine if you are ready to utilize such equipment.
