English III
Mrs. Tollett
11 th Grade English Expectations
This semester you will study American literature. Your textbook is an anthology, a collection of fiction, poetry, drama, and nonfiction. All the selections are by Americans in order to draw a vivid portrait of the unique and varied culture that is America. The selections are strung together chronologically—that is, in order of time—to trace the changes in attitudes, ideas, and styles that have occurred in our culture over the past several centuries. Students will be expected to complete reading assignments outside of class. There will be a literary analysis research paper as well as many essays during the year.
Textbooks : Literature- McDougall Littell The Language of Literature
Writing/ Grammar- McDougall Littell Language Network
Supplemental literature, grammar, and vocabulary may also be used.
Evaluation : Methods of evaluation will vary but will include projects, journals, reports, compositions, essays, research paper, notebooks, homework, class work, group work, class participation, quizzes, and tests, including mid-term and semester exams. There will also be an end-of-course test for this class. Your grades will be divided into the following categories: 50% tests, projects and papers, 25% quizzes and minor projects and 25% daily and homework.

- All rules and regulations found in the LHS handbook will also be enforced.
You will be given four opportunities to correct your behavior before I will consult the office.
1st time- given a warning

3rd time- contact parents and serve a teacher detention
4th time- sent to office
If, however, your behavior is such that class can no longer be conducted, you will be sent to an administrator without the opportunities listed above.
Procedures
- You must keep a three-ring notebook for my class.
- When you are absent, consult the make-up work folder. It will list everything you missed during your absence. Any worksheets that you need will be found in the file that corresponds to your class. If you missed a test or quiz, you must stay after school to make up the grade.
- Check the calendar at the front of the room every day to notice upcoming tests, projects, or important notices.
- Remain in your seat until I dismiss you. The bell does not dismiss you; I do. If you need extra help at any time, please see me to schedule a time before school or after school. I am always willing to work with you. Please do not allow yourself to get so far behind that it becomes almost impossible to catch up.
- All homework assignments should be turned in as you enter the classroom. Homework will not be accepted late.
- If you have an absentee form, field trip form, etc., place it in the white basket on my desk.
- All tests and essays should be completed in blue or black ink or typed unless otherwise instructed by the teacher.
- If you need extra help at any time, please see me to schedule a time before or after school. Please do not allow yourself to get so far behind that it becomes impossible to catch up.
