Course Description: This course is meant to be an enrichment to the standard English courses that students will take during their high school experience. We will focus on reading skills and writing skills. We will also have vocabulary every week.

Text: We use material taken from several different literature and grammar books, vocabulary books, as well as magazines and newspapers.

Requirements: Be prepared with paper and a pen or pencil. It is essential to have a notebook, with rings or prongs to keep materials such as handouts, graded work, vocabulary and other. The notebook should contain materials related to Communication Skills and also have dividers. The notebook will be kept neat and organized. I will grade the notebook toward the end of each 9 weeks. This grade will count as a test grade.

Grading:
40% - Tests and Major Assignments
20% - Quizzes
20% - Class work and Homework
20% - 9 weeks exam
100% - 9 weeks grade

50% - 1 st 9 weeks average
50% - 2 nd 9 weeks average
100% = semester grade

Progress Reports: Mid – term progress reports will be issued at every 4.5 weeks. If a student is failing a deficiency report will be mailed home around the 3 rd and 7 th week.

Report cards are issued every 9 weeks. All of these reports should be signed and returned to the teacher. Powergrade will be updated on a weekly basis. Passwords for parent access are available from the school office.
