Course Description
This course is a survey of world literature. It is designed to prepare students for the Georgia High School Graduation Test and the Georgia High School Writing Test. English II will place an emphasis on written and verbal communication, vocabulary skills, and literature appreciation. These skills will help the students succeed at the college level.
Textbooks
Literature: McDougall Littell The Language of Literature
Writing/Grammar: McDougall Littell Language Network
Supplemental literature, grammar, and vocabulary materials may be used.
Evaluation: Methods of evaluation will vary but will include: projects, journals, reports, compositions, research paper, notebooks, homework, class work, group work, quizzes, tests, and class participation.
Classroom Rules
- All students are to adhere to the LHS handbook rules at all times. (You will be given three warnings before office referral.)
- 1 st time- warning
- 2 nd time- teacher detention
- 3 rd time- call parents
- 4 th time- office referral
- If your behavior is such that class cannot be conducted, you will be sent to an administrator without the opportunities listed above.
- Students are to be on time and to attend class regularly.
- You are tardy to class if you are not in the room when the bell rings. All tardy students are required to stay 1 minute after class on the day of the violation. Tardiness will be reported to the office. See handbook.
- Any student who has perfect attendance and three or fewer tardies in a semester will be allowed to drop one test grade from the second 9 weeks. This does not include EOCT or 9 weeks exams. Students are required to take all tests.
- If you are absent, guidelines for make-up work will follow school policy. See handbook.
- Students are to be prepared for class.
- Agendas, book, paper, notebook, pencil, and pens.
- Pens must be blue or black ink only. Ten points will be deducted for the use of other colors.
- Agendas must be brought to class daily. You will not be permitted to leave the classroom without your agenda. Homework assignments are to be kept in the agenda.
- Students are to be respectful.
- Follow directions the first time they are given.
- Be seated unless otherwise given permission.
- Do not eat (food, candy, gum) in class. Water (no other beverages) will be allowed until the privilege is abused.
- Students may use the restroom during class as long as they are willing to make up the time in class per school policy. If this privilege is abused, it may be declined.
Procedures
- You must keep a three-ring notebook for my class. Spiral bound notebooks are not acceptable. The notebook must be divided into the following categories: Sponge Activity, Writing/Grammar Notes, Literature Notes, and Vocabulary.
- When you are absent, consult the make-up calendar in the front of the room. Missed worksheets will be in the class folder beside the calendar. A missed test or quiz must be made-up after school.
- Remain in your seat until I dismiss you. The bell does not dismiss you; I do. Do not line up at the door. You must wait until I say I am finished for the day.
- All homework should be turned in as you enter the classroom. Homework will not be accepted later during the period. If you forget your homework, you may bring it in the next day for a 50.
- Place admits/field trip forms in the tray on the corner of my desk when you enter the room.
