Objective
This course will examine the history of the United States beginning with the colonial period and ending with the late 20th century. Throughout this course, students will be challenged to understand the broad themes in history, such as, progressivism, isolationism, and expansionism. Also, specific areas will be addressed such as the Civil War, World Wars I and II, and the Revolutionary War. Great leaders of American history, such as, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Frederick Douglass, And Franklin Roosevelt, will be studied in-depth.

Grading
This course will be divided into two sections for the purpose of grading. Tests will count as 50 %. This is any major chapter or unit exam or any project. Daily work and quizzes will count as 50% this will include any work done on a daily basis or quizzes over reading. Also, there will be a semester final exam which will count as 15% of the semester grade. In this course, the final exam will be the stated mandated End Of Course Test.

Notebooks
Each student will be required to maintain a notebook. Notebooks will be graded twice a semester and will count as a major grade. All work should be kept in the notebook and organized according to the directives of the class.

Supplies
Each student will be assigned a text. They will be responsible for bringing that book with them to class each day. Pencil or blue or black ink pens are encouraged for completing assignments to be turned in. Regular, white ruled paper needs to be used. These supplies are to be brought to class each day. When a student is not prepared for class, that student is preparing to fail.

Homework
Homework is encouraged by the board of education and the Lafayette High School administration. The homework assignments in this class will be in the form of reading. Each week, students will be assigned reading to be done by the end of the week. That reading may be checked by quizzes during the week.
