Algebra III
First Semester 2006-2007

Teacher: W. Jackson

Course Description: Algebra III is a college-prep course intended for students who have successfully completed Algebra I, II, and geometry. The class is not intended to replace trigonometry, but should build confidence and skills for the students who will attend college.

Text: Algebra and Trigonometry Larson, Hostetler

Materials: 3-ring binder, notebook paper, graph paper, pencils, and graphing calculator (preferably TI-83 or TI-84)

Notebooks: It is required that all students keep a notebook. The notebook should be arranged in order by date and should contain homework, quizzes, and tests.

Grades: Class averages will be calculated using the following percentages:

Tests 40%
Quizzes 20%
Homework/Classwork 20%
Final Exam 20%

Homework: Homework will be given regularly and be due the next school day. No late papers will be accepted. Students have the number of days they were absent plus one to make up work but only for excused absences. All work should be completed in pencil. Work written in pen will not be graded.

Show your work: Students are expected to show their work on all tests, quizzes, and homework. Credit will not be given if work is not shown.

Makeup work: It is the student’s responsibility to find out what was missed during an absence and to make the work up within the number of days they were absent plus one. This includes tests and quizzes.

Expectations: Students are expected to be in class on time, with textbook and materials. Students are expected to stay in their seats at all times (work bell to bell). There should be no talking unless the student is speaking to the teacher or working on a group assignment. Students are expected to actively participate in the class by taking notes and asking questions. Students are expected to respect the property of the school and each other.

Desktop materials: Only those materials needed for math class are allowed on your desk. The teacher will collect any materials not necessary for math class.

Tardies: Any student not in their seat when the bell rings is tardy. Any student who needs to leave class to get an admit will be tardy.

Leaving class: Students are only allowed to leave class to go to the restroom on a limited basis. You will receive four(4) passes per nine weeks. Use them wisely. Even if you have not used all four passes, there will be times when you will not be given permission to leave the room. You must have your agenda to leave class.

Attendance/Tardy Policy: Please keep in mind the attendance policy. You are allowed six (6) absences. On the seventh absence, you will not receive credit for the class. If you are not in your seat when the bell rings, you will be marked tardy. Remember, five tardies equals one absence.

No food, drink, or gum is allowed in the classroom.
