Policy & Procedure Manual – This is PAGE 1 in your student notebook!
- Homework is due at the beginning of class. Place it in the homework tray before taking a seat. Homework will be collected one minute after the late bell rings. Homework or classwork turned in late will not receive credit. All work must have the due date and the student’s name at the top unless otherwise instructed. Students should write neatly in blue or black ink or pencil, or type work on a computer. No name = no credit. Illegible = no credit. Be ready for homework every night.
- Class begins when the bell rings. Students should begin working immediately. Anyone not in the room when the bell rings will be marked tardy. Five tardies count as one unexcused absence and will result in a discipline referral. If you think you might be late, get a pass!
- Water is allowed. No gum, candy or other food or drink. Students may refill water bottles only when all assignments have been completed to the teacher’s satisfaction.
- Treat all property appropriately.NO airborne objects. Students should have everything they need, including an admit if necessary, every day at the beginning of class and should not need to leave the room to get them. The first two minutes of class may be used to get out paper, sharpen pencils, etc. You will ALWAYS need notebook paper, a pen or pencil, and your agenda. You should have your notes and your books with you every day as well.
- Raise your hand and wait to be called on before speaking. Share the discussion – some may need to practice courage; others, restraint. Some assignments, such as group work, will suspend this policy. Allow everyone to listen to the announcements.
- Request permission from the teacher to leave class.Do not interrupt a conversation or instruction! Write the correct code and time on the correct day on the calendar grid in the agenda, and have the teacher initial it. The agenda will be the hall pass. No student will be excused from class without his or her own agenda. Each student will have three emergency restroom passes for the semester. Additional time will be made up after school, beginning at 3:10. If a student leaves class without permission, it will count as an unexcused absence, unless the student returns with a pass. See the handbook.
- Treat others with respect. I do not want to hear any negative remarks about another person. If you have a problem with someone, handle it face-to-face, maturely and quietly. If you fuss or argue, your punishment will be worse.
- Extra credit is available . However, no extra credit will be assigned to a student who has uncompleted work. This means that late work must be turned in, even without credit, before extra credit will be assigned. Extra credit will bring up classwork and homework grades at a two-for-one rate: two extra credit projects will bring up a 0 to a √- or a √- to a √. (See syllabus.)
- Teachers are to teach and students are to learn. Anything that interferes with the learning environment is a problem. Please follow all rules and regulations in the LHS student handbook.
If you choose not to follow policies 2-7: First time: Warning - name recorded. Second time: Teacher-issued detention (30 min). Third time: Parent contact. Teacher/Parent determine consequence. Fourth time: Referral to office. Please note that all offenses are cumulative; if a student who was warned for chewing gum is later seen wandering around the classroom without permission, he or she will receive a “second time” consequence.
Any unsafe behavior will result in immediate removal from class, and further consequences at the teacher’s discretion.
Rewards: Greater control of your life, reduced stress, increased success in class! If you finish all your work to my satisfaction and there is time left in class, you may request permission to do work for another class, read on your own, use the restroom as a non-emergency pass, refill a water bottle, go to the office or to guidance, or talk quietly with others who have also met this requirement.
