COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Physics is the study of Matter and Energy and their inter-actions. The main topics we’ll be covering are: Motion, Forces, Energy, Waves, Sound, Light, Electricity, and Mag-netism. This course is intended to teach you good problem-solving skills, and to give you a good foundation to build on when you take college Physics.
TEXTBOOK:
Physics - Principles and Problems published by Glencoe (Paul W. Zitzewitz)
MATERIALS:
1. 3 Ring Notebook (with pockets)
- Keep handouts dated and in order of the notes.
2. Textbook
3. Pencils should be used rather than pens.
4. Scientific Calculator (with Trig. functions)
GRADING SYSTEM: PERCENTAGE
Tests (1 every two weeks) 48%
Quizzes (1 every other week) 24%
Homework & Daily work (3 to 4 a week) 16%
Notebook (quiz over it given every two weeks) 12%
TOTAL = 100%
MAKE-UP WORK:
If you miss an assignment - you will get the same number of days to make it up as you missed + one day extra. The best time to make up work is after school. Please give at least one day’s notice before you come in to make up work.
DETENTION:
Detentions will involve clean-up duties (usually lab equipment). They will last around 45 minutes (after school). No demeaning work will be given to embarrass you.
BATHROOM BREAKS:
If you ask me Before the bell rings to start class, I will let you go as many days as you need without penalty. But, after the bell rings, I will allow you only four breaks for the whole semester. If you have a condition that requires you to go more often, please bring a doctor’s note stating your problem.
