I
expect you to be here and on time every day. I realize that there will be
times that you can not help being absent, but this should be kept to a
minimum. I can not teach you, and you can not keep up, if you miss
excessively.
You
are expected to come to class prepared
to work and ready to learn. This means you need to bring your text book,
paper, and pencil to class every day. Included in this preparation is a good
night's sleep and a hearty breakfast.
Films, filmstrips, and videos are vital elements in the presentation of
materials for this class. They are not used as "fillers" and do not
represent "free time", a concept totally foreign to my
understanding. Thus, I expect you to watch them and to learn from them. I
do not allow my students to place their heads on their desks or to wear
sunglasses during the showing of any of the above. If you are absent when
any of these are used, it may be necessary for you to stay after school to
view the missed materials.
All
excused absence work missed must be made up within
five (5) school days from the time it is missed. After that time, it is left
to my discretion as to whether or not you will be allowed to make up the work or
receive a zero for it. All work must be made up before or after school. Each
case will be handled separately and on an individual basis.
Please do not write on the desks, talk out of the windows, touch the air
conditioner or the audio-visual equipment in this classroom. Remember that it is
my home for most of the day. Treat it with respect. Please deposit your garbage
in the cans provided. THERE WILL BE NO
FOOD OR DRINKS ALLOWED IN THIS CLASSROOM!
Should
you need help in this class, I am available to assist you. However, do not wait
until near the end of a grading period. At that point, it is a bit late for
miracles.
The
text for this class is Economic Principles and Practices. Should you lose
it, it costs about $40.00. This charge is also assessed for books that are
excessively damaged. Other resources used in this course include the various
materials from The Georgia Council on Economic Education.
In
each chapter, you are usually assigned the chapter to read, writing and
answering the questions, and completing all worksheets. I have a very fixed
manner that you are to follow in doing this. You are to label each assignment by
chapter, section, and page number, in that precise order. Points are deducted
for not following directions. I feel this is a part of the learning process.
After the chapter has been read, the questions answered and discussed, the
chapter discussed and reviewed, you will have a chapter test. Each test has
True/False, matching, definition, and multiple choice questions. In addition,
there may be either fill-in-the-blank, graphs, or discussion questions on each
test. This format seldom changes.
I desire your successful completion of this course and it is my main
objective and concern. AU that we do has this aim in mind. I will attempt to
keep you on target and will seek parental assistance in this as needed. Should
parent conferences be desired or necessary, I am available each day during my
preparation period (
Please read this carefully. I am looking forward to a great semester!
