Gender Equity Policy

State law prohibits discrimination based on gender in athletic programs of local school systems (Equity in Sports Act 20-2-315).  Students are hereby notified that the Walker County School System does not discriminate on the basis of gender in its athletic programs.

Inquiries or complaints concerning sports equity in this school system may be submitted to the Sports Equity Coordinator.

 

 

ATHLETIC ELIGIBILITY

According to Georgia High School Association (GHSA), a student is eligible to participate in athletics only if he/she:

·          Had a bona fide move if transferred into LHS and is living within our school district boundary.

·          Attended school semester.

·          Is “On Track.” (Have earned Carnegie units equivalent to years you have been in high school)

·          Has been in high school no more than four consecutive years after ninth grade entry date.

·          Has not attained his/her 19th birthday prior to May 1st preceding the year of participation.

·          Has completed a physical examination during the past 12 months.

·          Was not ineligible at the previous school for academic or behavioral reasons.

·          Is not a professional athlete in the sport you wish to participate.
