Students will be required to alter their clothing to an appropriate standard and will be referred to the office if they violate Walker County/LaFayette High School dress code. In some cases, parents WILL be called to bring alternate clothing to their child or to pick him/her up from school. These absences will be Unexcused and no make up work will be given.
Shorts may be worn by male and female students. Shorts must be worn at the natural waistline of the student and of an appropriate size for the body. Shorts may be no shorter than halfway between the fingertips and the kneecap.
Students are NOT to wear:
- Clothing (especially jeans) with rips, holes, slits, or cuts above the kneecap unless covered
- Transparent clothing (see-through) or any type clothing that reveals ANY undergarments.
- Clothing which has any reference to alcohol, drugs, tobacco, sex, obscene language, suicide, violence, vulgarity, gang or cult symbols or affiliation, or any symbols that are considered belittling to ethnic or religious groups, or those of alternative lifestyles. No Dixie Outfitter or similar clothing.
- Pajama pants, baggy or oversized pants of any kind, or pants in which the cuff width completely covers the student’s shoes.
- Dresses or skirts that are shorter than the top of the student’s kneecap or have visible slits above the kneecap.
- Tank tops, tube tops, spaghetti straps, see-through blouses, any “off-the-shoulder” clothing.
- Shirts that have torn-out sleeves or sides, or shirts that are not well-fitted in the armpit area.
- Shirts that reveal the midriff area (belly) , top of the chest area, or lower back. Shirts revealing cleavage will not be tolerated. Shirts should be longer than the top of the pants! Undergarments should not be visible.
- Bedroom shoes of any kind, or shoes with metal toecaps or cleats.
- Trench coats or coats longer than the mid thigh, except for JROTC uniforms.
- Hats, caps, hoods, combs, or brushes in the hair. No sunglasses (except as required by a doctor) or bandannas (unless thinly worn as a girl’s head band) inside the building.
- Students may not have unnaturally colored hair, or hairstyles that are distracting.
- Any type of visible body or facial jewelry, except pierced earrings. This means NO nose, eyebrow, or chin rings or studs. Cover them with a flesh colored band-aid BEFORE you get to school and UNTIL YOU LEAVE at the end of the day. Students are to provide their own band-aids. Also, no jewelry that may create a hazardous condition, such as long chains, wallet chains, spiked or studded bracelets or necklaces.
- Suspenders unless worn as intended, on the shoulders, not hanging down.
