Format a Letter...

Enter six times from the top of the page to create a two-inch top margin.
Type the Date and enter four times. NEVER abbreviate the month and never use ##/##/## format in a letter.
Salutation (Dear ###) followed by a comma and enter twice (blank line before first paragraph).
Body: use word wrap and press enter twice at the end of each paragraph (gives you a blank line between paragraphs.
Complimentary Closing: Sincerely, Repectfully, etc. and enter four times (gives you room to sign your name).
Writer's Identification: on a personal business letter (an individual to a business), include the writer's address. On a business letter (a business to another business or an individual) include the writer's title (President, etc.).

Format an Academic Report...

Change line spacing to double.
Use a four part heading: student's name, teacher's name, class name, and date in military style (day month year). NEVER abbreviate the month and never use ##/##/## format.
Tab to indent your paragraphs.
Works Cited begins a new page (in Word, press Control-Enter to start a new page)

Format a Business Report...

Center and bold your title in all caps. Enter twice.
Center the words By and add your name. Enter twice.
Tab to indent your paragraphs. Use word wrap and enter twice at the end of the paragraphs (puts a blank line between paragraphs)
