Music/Chorus

Concert Band
Prerequisite: None
Provides opportunities to develop performance skills on a wind or percussion instrument. Emphasizes performance and production. May include analysis, historical and cultural influences, improvisation, and appreciation of music. Organizes objectives for sel-paced progress through all four levels. Stresses individual progress and group experiences.

Symphonic Band
Prerequisite: Director Approval
Enhances level-one skills and provides further opportunities for advanced-level performers to develop and refine performance skills and precision on a wind or percussion instrument. Covers performance and production, analysis and theoretical studies, historical and cultural contributions and influences, creative aspects of music, and appreciation of music. Stresses self-paced progress, individual learning strategies, and ensemble experiences.

Concert Choir
Prerequisite: Audition, Permission of Instructor
A by-audition-only mixed chorus that exists for the porposes of performing various kinds of music in the finest manner possible. Provides opportunities for students to improve vocal, sight singing, and musical interpretation skills, providing exposure to various musical styles and the cultural significance of each, and performing service activities for and on behalf of LaFayette High School.

Women’s Chorus
Prerequisite: None
The Women’s Chorus exists for the purpose of performing various kinds of music in the finest manner possible. Provides opportunities for students to improve vocal, sight singing, and musical interpretation skills, providing exposure to various musical styles and the cultural significance of each, and performing service activities for and on behalf of LaFayette High School.

Music Appreciation
Prerequisite: None
Music Appreciation exists for the purposes of: 1) gaining an ability to describe and demonstrate a working musical knowledge using appropriate terminology with relation to the history of music, music theory, musical instruments, and music performance; and 2) aquiring a deeper appreciation for music as an art form.
