Construction

Building Construction I--Basic Carpentry
Prerequisite: None
Students will learn the following skills: identification of tools and materials; safe, accurate use of specific power tools; construction of a personally designed project; and advanced exploration of framing, stair stringer construction, roofing, and building site layout.

Building Construction II--Masonry
Prerequisite: Construction I
Students will learn the following skills: identification of tools and materials; cutting masonry units; mixing mortar; job site set-up, construction of specific brick and/or block projects; advanced framing exploration during the coldest weeks of the spring or fall semester.

Building Construction III--Exploration of Construction Trades
Prerequisite: Construction I & II
Students will learn will learn two or more of the following skills: basic electrical wiring and codes; basic sheetrock installation and finishing; basic plumbing techniques and codes; advanced construction projects.

Building Construction IV--Advanced Carpentry
Prerequisite: Construction I, II & III
Students will continue study of building codes and participate in the construction of projects for on-campus and off-campus use.
