Visual Arts I
Prerequisite: None
Introduces art history, art criticism, aesthetic judgment, and studio production. Emphasizes the use of elements and principles of design though a variety of media, processes, and visual resources. Explores master artworks for historical and cultural significance.
Visual Arts II
Prerequisite: Visual Arts I
Enhances level-one skills in art history, art criticism, aesthetic judgment, and studio production. Emphasizes and reinforces knowledge and application of design elements and their relationships to the principles of design. Explores different two-and three-dimensional art media and processes. Investigates master artworks to increase awareness and to examine the role of art and the artist from ancient civilizations through contemporary socities.
Visual Arts III
Prerequisite: Visual Arts I & II
Allows the advanced art student opportunity for continued and more personal exploration of different techniques and media. Enhances level-two skills in art history, art criticism, aesthetic judgment, and studio production. Master artworks are more intensely covered from ancient civilizations through contemporary times. Stresses idea development through production and creativity.
Ceramics
Prerequisite: Visual Arts I
An introduction into the world of clay. The class will explore a variety of techniques: coil, slab, and carving. Explores the potters wheel. Discovers a variety of master potters through art history.
Drawing
Prerequisite: Visual Arts I
An introduction into drawing by exploring many mediums and applications. Enhances the skills of working with charcoal, pastel, oil pastel, pencil, and pen. Development of a better understanding of famous drawers.
Painting
Prerequisite: Visual Arts I
An introduction into the world of painting. The class will focus on use of different media: oils, acrylic, tempera, and others. Explores painting on different backgrounds. Provides a better knowledge of master painters throughout time. |
